History / Politics
This was formerly British Honduras, but has been independent since 1981. The country has a stable, parliamentary democracy.
Most people in Belize say they are Christians, but only 10% attend church regularly. True spirituality is often mixed with superstition. The Mayans often mix in paganism, and the Garifuna black magic. Evangelicals grew from 4.6% of population in 1960 to 19% in 2010.
Pray for revival and elimination of superstition, paganism, and black magic. Pray that Hispanic, English, German, and Mayan-speaking Believers can unite. Pray for training for pastors who usually work a primary job, making education difficult. Pray for unity between the native church and foreign Believers who help them. Pray for greater outreach to the Garifuna, Mayans, Chinese, and Indians.
