History / Politics
A republic since 1810; Has been a democracy since 1989 after decades of a repressive regime. The government is now stable with education and poverty reforms recently. Crime and drug abuse continue to increase. Ethnic minorities have difficult lives; There are 70,000 Christian Palestinians in Chile.
Only 12-13% of Roman Catholics regularly attend mass. Many Catholics are now evangelicals/charismatics, but many have become non-religious. More Bible studies and teachers of the Scripture are needed. Charismatic groups are very divided compared to most other countries. Evangelicals do not have a strong vision for sending missionaries to other cultures.
Pray for families of Pinochet’s unjust regime (1973 to 1988) where 3,000 people were killed. Pray for continued revival in the Catholic church and growth of evangelicals. Pray for more Christian workers and leaders for the church.
