History / Politics
Independence in 1821 from Spain, and has had a stable, multi-party democracy for a while.
Evangelicals grew to 15% of the population and are very strong on missionary efforts. Evangelism tends to be strong, but discipleship is weak and pastors are often impoverished. Has some of the best training for Christians in Latin America with many schools. Stability here has allowed Costa Rica to become a regional center for global ministries. Youth have difficulty with drugs, violence, and immoral lifestyles.
Pray for the continued growth of evangelicals and for their strong missionary efforts. Pray for better discipleship and growth in the leadership of the church. Pray for the Christian schools that provide a base for outreach to other Latin nations.
