History / Politics
Occupied by Muslim Moors for 700 years ending in 1492; Then 3 centuries of empire. Then 2 centuries of instability, civil wars, and dictatorships; Now constitutional monarchy. Had an amazing transformation after 1978 when abandoned dictatorship for democracy. Increased wealth led to growth of sexual immorality, abortion, and prostitution. Low birth rate, depression, debt, and disease are leading to more problems for future. Spanish are one of the heaviest users of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin.
Spain is considered a Catholic nation, but fewer than 17% go to church. Evangelical growth came with greater religious freedom, but most are immigrants. Spain has never had a revival before; It is in great need of one now.
Pray that the people will realize that wealth is not an answer for spiritual problems. Pray that there is a revival inside of Catholicism and that evangelicals will grow also. Pray for the youth, who are disillusioned and turning to drugs and sexual immorality.
