    Fijian (52%); South Asian (36.7%, mostly descendants of indentured servants brought by the British between 1879 and 1916); Vanuatan (6.4%); Caucasian (1.4%); Rotuman (1.2%, on Rotuman island).

    The economy is based almost entirely on tourism and sugar.
    It is one of the best developed economies in the Pacific.
    Asian Indians dominate most businesses, but are denied land rights, and many emigrate.

    The importing of Indian laborers by the British has left this nation ethnically divided.
    The Indians face resentment and racial prejudice.
  • Spirituality

    Poor treatment of Indians by British and Fijians, both Christians, discredits the Gospel. 
    The Methodist church was the primary church in Fiji for 150 years. 
    Many have left the Methodist church for newer churches with better spiritual life. 
    Pentecostals have grown a lot in the last ten years.
  • Prayers

    Pray for a spirit of repentance and reconciliation by Christians for past abuses.
    Pray for continued revival in Fijian church, both the newer churches and Methodist ones. 
    Pray that the Fijians would become once again a great sending church to the Pacific. 
    Pray for the Indian ethnic group, which is Hindu and largely unevangelized.
