History / Politics
Germany ruled from 1899-1916; Then Belgium 1916-1962. Hutu dominance led to Tutsi genocide in 1994 that killed 800,000 -- up to 20% of the population. Since 2000, the government has banned ethnic identification to make the country safe. More than half of the elected parliament are women, the highest in the world. Many women were made widows, have husbands in prison, or have a child from rape.
Forgiveness and recovery from spiritual and emotional wounds needs to continue. Evangelicals increased greatly as they were ministering to the hurting after the genocide. Many pastors fled during the 1990’s, so the church leadership needs to be rebuilt. Pray for the women and orphans who are vulnerable due to genocide, war, and AIDS.
Pray that forgiveness and reconciliation will continue to happen. Pray that new pastors will arise and others come back to minister to the people. Pray for the vulnerable, especially the women and children, and HIV-infected persons.
