History / Politics
Nation was founded in 1787 as a home for freed slaves. Liberian civil war caused violence in 1990 and led to governmental collapse. Followed by military coups and guerrilla warfare over the diamonds in the southeast. British intervened and defeated the rebels; democracy was restored in 2002. Recent Ebola epidemic caused further disruption. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission helped bring fighters back to their homes. Corruption and stability continue to be an issue.
Christian workers helped rebuild the country and minister to the many hurting people. Secret societies and the occult have led to the evil and greed of the society. Christians need to have a purer walk with the Lord and avoid occult practices. Pray for the orphans, former child soldiers, slaves, rape victims, and other victims. More Christian leaders are needed to change the Muslim culture.
