    An increasing population with decreasing resources strains the economy. 
    Many have emigrated and send money back to families which helps economy.
    Trying to move from agriculture to tourism over time.
    2009 earthquake and tsunami killed 150, and caused damage to the infrastructure.

    German rule (1900-1914), then New Zealand U.N. trusteeship until 1962 independence.

    Samoans have been Christians for more than 100 years, and all villages have a church.
    Most Christians have a superficial faith, and there are rivalries among denominations. 
    Mormons have had a large impact on Samoa, though not as large an impact as they claim.
