History / Politics
Independence in 1864 from Great Britain; Single-party state until 1991, then multiparty. Zambia has been a stable and peaceful nation surrounded by violent countries.
Christianity is often expressed publicly and Zambia considers itself a Christian nation. Evangelicals grew from 3.8% in 1960 to 25.7% in 2010, but Bible knowledge is low. Many Christians continue to practice African religious rituals and occult practices. The evangelical churches are growing all over the country.
Pray for continued growth of the evangelical church and for maturity and purity. Pray that Christians would stop practicing traditional African practices.
