    Land-reform caused millions to leave the country, especially the professional class.
    Nation once was a major food exporter, but cannot feed its own people now.
    Unemployment is extremely high; Hospitals, schools, and other services are often closed.

    Was one-party state until 2008, but Mugabe has stayed in power; Voting irregularities occur.
    State-sponsored violence is directed at political opponents, the media, and social activists.
    It has one of the world’s worst AIDS crises, and so many AIDS orphans live in the nation.

    Churches have grown through all the difficulties and are helping with services.
